Lisinopril medicine used for

It is a prescribed medicine and used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It is sometimes also given to patients after suffering from heart attack and diabetic kidney disease. Lisinopril is also used to improve the survival rate of patients after a heart attack. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. It is a class of drugs that belongs to ACE inhibitors.

 Lisinopril Warning

Before start using this medicine ask your physician. If you are pregnant avoid using this medicine. It could harm your unborn baby. If you are suffering from kidney disorder or diabetes, do not take this medicine with any medicine that contains aliskiren. Using lisinopril together with aliskiren may increase the risk of some serious problems such as kidney problems, low blood pressure, and high potassium level.

Lisinopril common Side effect

  • Fever, sore throat
  • High potassium level
  • Kidney or liver problems
  • Chest pain, sometimes irregular heartbeat
  • Itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite
  • Headache and dizziness

What to avoid on lisinopril

Before starting to taking lisinopril, tell your doctor if you have any allergic reaction to the ACE inhibitor. Before starting this medicine tell your doctor if you have any medical history especially a history of any kind of drug’s side effects. Avoid alcohol and other addictive drugs because they can cause light headaches and dizziness. If you are using alcohol, limit your alcohol level because it may cause dehydration problems which may lead to you too much sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Be sure to take enough fluids to prevent dehydration. Do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes while using this medicine Avoid long-lasting sitting or lying on bad because it may make you feel dizzy. All the precautions are not listed here.  Lisinopril Interactions with other drugs

  • a diuretic or “water pill”;
  • lithium;
  • gold injections to treat arthritis;
  • insulin or oral diabetes medicine;
  • a potassium supplement;
  • medicine to prevent organ transplant rejection – everolimus, sirolimus, tacrolimus, temsirolimus; or
  • NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) – aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others.

Dosage
